Two things about Lacerte that trip people up

First, the import reads .CSV and .XLS but not .XLSX, so we hand you a CSV. Second, it needs a numeric category from 1 to 8 and a numeric method code — not the method text your schedule printed. We map what we can and flag what we can't, because picking a method code on your behalf would be us making a determination about the return.

The summary schedule problem

Lacerte prints a detailed depreciation schedule and a summary one, and only the detailed version separates prior regular depreciation from prior §179 and prior bonus. Most PDFs that arrive from a prior preparer are the summary. When we detect that, we leave prior §179 and prior bonus empty and tell you they weren't printed, instead of splitting the combined figure or writing zeros. A zero there quietly breaks recapture when the asset is sold.

What Lacerte's import can't take

There is no import field for state prior depreciation or business-use percentage. If your source schedule has them, we show them on screen and name them on the download page so you can key those two fields yourself — rather than dropping them silently.
